UK, Australia, Italy say trade war 'in nobody's interest'

United Kingdom's Prime Minister Keir Starmer held phone calls with his Australian and Italian counterparts, Anthony Albanese and Giorgia Meloni, to discuss the trade war that escalated after United States President Donald Trump slapped numerous countries with retaliatory tariffs, a Downing Street spokesperson said on Friday.

"They all agreed that an all-out trade war would be extremely damaging and is in nobody's interests," the spokesperson noted.

Additionally, the official stressed that Starmer insisted that the UK's response to newly imposed duties would be "guided by the national interest."
