WH: Trump's tariffs 'common-sense policy'

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday insisted that United States President Donald Trump's tariffs policy is "a common-sense policy" after the US head of state imposed reciprocal levies on global trade partners.

"And if these countries wanted to negotiate, if these countries wanted to do what's right, they’ve had 70 years to do it," Leavitt told CNN. "Instead, they have been ripping off American workers. And President Trump has made it very clear that this is a policy he was going to implement," she added.

In addition, the press secretary addressed the impact of tariffs on the stock market, urging investors to trust Trump. "This is a president who is doubling down on his proven economic formula from his first term," she concluded.
