German and British Defense Ministers Boris Pistorius and John Healey signed the Trinity House Agreement on Wednesday, a "milestone" in military cooperation between the two nations. The pact aims to counter Russian threats after the war in Ukraine and strengthen NATO’s European pillar.
One highlight of the agreement is the operation of German P-8 submarine-hunting planes from a base in Scotland. Additionally, German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall will open a factory in the UK to produce artillery gun barrels using British steel, creating over 400 jobs. "We share the same threats: war in Ukraine, conflict in the Middle East, growing Russian aggression. We share the same values: democracy, individual freedom, rule of law," Healey said during a conference.
According to the UK government site, the Trinity House Agreement strengthens defense cooperation by advancing joint projects like deep strike weapons and expanding military training to fortify NATO's eastern flank.
