The United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States jointly introduced sanctions targeting the Russian-based leader of the "cyber-crime gang" LockBit, Dmitry Khoroshev, on Tuesday.
The hacker group is said to be responsible for "extorting over $1 billion from thousands of victims globally," the British government said in the statement. Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA) noted that Khoroshev, who previously "offered" a $10 million prize to anyone who could reveal his identity, will now be subjected to a series of asset freezes and travel bans. In addition, Washington announced a $10 million reward for information leading to Khoroshev's arrest.
Earlier this year, Britain's NCA seized control of the main operational system used by LockBit, "one of the world's most pernicious cybercrime gangs."
