United Kingdom Defense Secretary John Healey on Tuesday emphasized that the decisions made in the coming weeks will not only "define" the outcome of the Ukraine conflict but also shape "the security of our world for generations to come," as the world confronts a "new era of threat."
"The European countries have to play a leading part in that guarantee, but require a backstop from the US, because, in the end, it is only the US that can provide the deterrence to Putin that will prevent him from attacking again," Healey told the Institute for Government in London. The defense minister also revealed plans to reform the defense leadership structure by appointing four new senior leaders to the ministry.
"This is a government whose commitment to defense is unshakable. It’s the foundation for our plan for change, for the delivery of our government’s missions," the secretary underlined.
