The United Kingdom has a key role in mediating the ongoing tariff dispute between its closest allies, the United States and the European Union, Minister of State for Secondary Care Karin Smyth told Times Radio on Tuesday.
"It is a long history of being an island off Europe that works very well across the Atlantic Ocean. That's a real strength we've got," she stated. "I hope it doesn't come to a sort of trade war," the health minister added.
Previously, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer underlined that London is "not choosing between the US and the EU" after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose trade tariffs against imports from the bloc.
