The United Kingdom's government may reduce tariffs on agricultural goods coming in from the United States, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.
The measure has reportedly been proposed by Secretary for International Trade Liz Truss, who aims to use the decrease in levies to secure a trade agreement with Washington. However, other government officials are concerned the proposal may endanger British farmers, people with the knowledge of the matter told the FT.
The two countries formally started their negotiations on May 5. US President Donald Trump previously warned that the Brexit agreement with the EU could be an obstacle to the trade deal between London and Washington, as European Union's tariffs and regulations have managed to keep a lot of American products out of the single market.
