The United Kingdom will join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) by the end of March, FNN reported Tuesday, citing several government officials. The CPTPP is a trade agreement between several countries, including Canada, Japan, and Australia.
The deal aims to reduce trade barriers and promote economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region. It covers a range of issues, including intellectual property, labor standards, environmental protections, and trade in goods and services. The US was part of the original TPP until 2017, when it withdrew from the partnership under the Trump administration.
The negotiations for the UK accession began in 2021 in the wake of its withdrawal from the European Union (EU).
