Israel's ground invasion of Shujayea, a neighborhood in northern Gaza City, is expected to last for weeks as the army aims to destroy Hamas tunnels missed in previous operations, The Jerusalem Post reported on Sunday, citing sources with the Israeli military.
According to the report, the rapid penetration of the northern area, which took 40 minutes compared to weeks in December, indicated that the returning Hamas forces are significantly weaker.
Israeli forces had withdrawn from northern Gaza in January, claiming that Hamas had been dismantled, but resumed ground operations following the alleged return of Palestinian armed groups to the area.
