The United States Department of State greenlit a possible military sale for Ukraine to provide critical repairs and spare parts for Kiev’s HAWK missile systems on Tuesday, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
Ukraine has requested to purchase missile recertification components, tool kits, test equipment, support equipment and other maintenance-related assets for its HAWK medium-range surface-to-air missile system, with the possible sale thus amounting to $138 million.
"Ukraine has an urgent need to increase its capabilities to defend against Russian missile strikes and the aerial capabilities of Russian forces. Maintaining and sustaining the HAWK missile system will enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend its people and protect critical national infrastructure," the State Department said in a memo defining the sale.
