The United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union have introduced sanctions on the Central Bank of Russia and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) over that country's invasion of Ukraine, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss confirmed on Monday in a tweet.

"Together with allies, we will continue to impose sanctions until Putin respects [Ukraine's] sovereignty and territorial integrity," she tweeted. According to the statement issued by the British government, the measures prohibit, among other things, transactions via the Central Bank of Russia and the aforementioned institutions' access to financial markets in the forenamed territories.

The news comes after the US and the EU announced their intention to have Russia ejected from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
