US closes mostly higher ahead of inflation data

Major Wall Street stock indexes closed mostly higher on Monday after opening today's session with solid gains and continuing momentum from last week. Investors anticipated this week's reports on consumer and producer prices in the United States to gauge the state of the country's inflation. The US Department of Labor will also publish its report on initial jobless claims on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial advanced by 0.69% at the closing bell, with Salesforce Inc. jumping by 6.14%. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 was flat, while the S&P 500 rose by 0.10% at the close, as Bristol Myers Squibb Co. surged by 10.49%.

The euro lost 0.58% against the dollar, selling for $1.06561 at 3:58 am ET.
