The United States condemns the ballistic missile launch North Korea conducted earlier in the day as a "violation of multiple United Nations Security Council Resolutions" and a "threat" to that country's neighbors and international community, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price stated on Tuesday.

"We remain committed to a diplomatic approach to the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] and call on them to engage in dialogue. Our commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad," he added.

Earlier in the day, South Korea reported its northern neighbors launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan.
