The United States and South Korea are working together on an "effective coordinated" response in case North Korea uses nuclear weapons for an attack, the White House told AFP on Tuesday.

However, the outlet noted that the two countries will not take part in physical joint exercises as Seoul does not possess nukes, so the coordination is likely to be "limited to staff wargaming essentially."

Earlier, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's office stated Seoul and Washington are discussing jointly implementing plans regarding US nuclear assets.
