US diplomat Brian A. Nichols retires after 36 years

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the retirement of Brian A. Nichols on Tuesday, after 36 years in the Foreign Service.

Blinken commended Nichols for his expert leadership and significant contributions to US foreign policy, serving as Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs since 2021, highlighting his role in strengthening relationships with international partners.

"I have deeply appreciated Brian’s expert counsel. His contributions have strengthened the State Department and enhanced U.S. relations with partners around the globe. Brian’s legacy in the Foreign Service will continue to influence U.S. foreign policy and bilateral relationships for years to come," Blinken said in a statement.
