US envoy to visit Middle East, observe ceasefire

EPA-EFE/ALLISON DINNER

United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff told Fox News on Wednesday he will travel to the Middle East to monitor compliance to the latest ceasefire Israel and Hamas agreed upon.

The diplomat expressed his belief that the deal is the move in the right direction to deescalate the crisis in the region. Furthermore, he urged the Middle Eastern countries to normalize their relations with Israel, particularly Qatar, which is one of the main mediators in the negotiations between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government and Hamas.

Witkoff already visited Israel, after which, seemingly uncoincidentally, that country and Hamas reached an agreement on the new truce. US President Donald Trump then claimed his administration "achieved an epic ceasefire agreement as the first step toward lasting peace in the Middle East," more than his predecessor Joe Biden and his team during their entire tenure.
