US govt planning to tighten pollution rules

EPA-EFE/TANNEN MAURY

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to tighten rules on planet-warming pollution caused by natural gas power plants, according to a report published by CNN on Friday.

Sources familiar with the Biden administration's plans said the new, more "aggressive" policies supported by environmental groups would apply both to new and existing plants. Commenting on the claims, the EPA said it "looks forward to sharing more information with stakeholders and the public once the interagency review process is completed."

Unlike the Obama administration, the current government is trying to balance rising regulation standards while ensuring they can resist legal challenges from red states and the fossil fuel industry, per the report.
