United States Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley shared on Monday at a Carnegie Endowment event that Washington is currently "not going to waste time" on negotiating the revival of the Iran nuclear deal.

"It is not on our agenda. We are not going to focus on something which is inert when other things are happening," Malley noted, hinting at the most recent events prompted by the Iranian morality police. He noted that the aforementioned human rights abuses, alongside Iran's support of Russia's war in Ukraine "fundamentally changed the situation."

Due to such occurrences, another US official told Axios that even if Tehran were to come back to the negotiating table, it is unlikely that Washington would proceed with it. Malley asserted that the US is going to push further sanctions against Iran, coupled with other tools, to deal with the latter's actions.
