US opens lower, Dow Jones drops 300 points

Major stock indexes started the trading session on Wednesday with losses as investors awaited the latest financial results by Salesforce Inc., Dell Technologies Inc., and HP Inc. scheduled for release after the closing bell. On the economic front, the Mortgage Bankers Association's (MBA) report showed that US mortgage applications dropped by 5.7% last week, and the Federal Reserve is expected to publish its Beige Book later in the day.

The Dow Jones opened 0.78% or 303 points lower as Intel Corporation dropped by 1.71%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.86%, with Moderna Inc. sinking 3.09%. The S&P 500 declined 0.75%, and American Airlines Group Inc. tumbled 11.61%.

The euro fell by 0.20% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.08356.
