United States stock indexes began Friday's session on a negative note, while investors digested recent Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's statements regarding monetary policy not being "too tight." Additionally, market participants analyzed the increase in the 10-year yield for United States Treasury bonds, which reached its highest point in 16 years.
In business, SLB and American Express published reports before the opening bell.
At the open, the Dow Jones fell by 0.12% at 9:31 am ET, with The Travelers Companies Inc losing 2.48%. The Nasdaq 100 decreased 0.22% and the S&P 500 was 0.12% lower at the same time. Enphase Energy dragged both indexes down, tumbling 13.90%.
The euro traded flat versus the dollar, to sell at $1.05864 at 9:29 am ET.
