United States stock indexes opened lower on Thursday after the latest report by the US Department of Labor showed that the number of initial jobless claims in the country rose more than analysts anticipated for the week ending March 15. Investors also digested decisions made by the US Federal Reserve and Bank of England (BoE) to keep their key interest rate unchanged while they anticipated the report on the existing home sales in the US.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.40% at the opening bell, with Amgen slipping by 0.66% at 9:30 am ET. Meanwhile the Nasdaq 100 dropped by 0.90% and the S&P 500 decreased by 0.62%, as Intel lost 1.08% at 9:31 am ET on both indexes.
The euro traded 0.74% lower than the dollar, selling for $1.08229 at 9:29 am ET.
