US to grant immunity to Saudi crown prince in Khashoggi case

The United States Department of Justice revealed in a filing that the Biden Administration urged the court to provide immunity to Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Salman over his suspected involvement in the case of the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi back in 2018.

"The United States Government has expressed grave concerns regarding Jamal Khashoggi's horrific killing and has raised these concerns publicly and with the most senior levels of the Saudi government," the DoJ underscored in the filing, calling the administration's move to grant immunity to the crown prince a "purely legal determination."

However, United States intelligence agencies had previously concluded that the Saudi crown prince had authorized the operation that resulted in Khashoggi's murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
