Stock exchanges on Wall Street closed Friday's trading session in the green territory, brushing off previously recorded losses as investors continued to dissect the latest release of financial results registered in the fourth quarter of the fiscal 2022. The United States' major banks and corporations posted better-than-expected earnings seemingly driving the upbeat sentiment despite projections of a mild recession.
The positive trend in the markets appeared to be supported by data on the country's consumer confidence that predicted a slight recovery on a monthly basis as the inflation rate declined to its lowest level in over a year.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 112 points or 0.33% with JPMorgan Chase & Co. gaining 2.52%. The Nasdaq 100 rose by 0.71% as MercadoLibre Inc. soared 5.72. The S&P 500 climbed by 0.40%, with Illumina Inc. jumping 3.80%.
The euro slipped 0.18% against the greenback, to sell at $1.08327 at 3:59 pm ET.
