Ukraine has supposedly sidelined its Abrams M1A1 battle tanks provided by the United States due to their vulnerability to Russian drone attacks, the Associated Press reported on Friday, citing two US military officials.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) pulled the tanks back after previously losing five of the 31 tanks to Russian drone attacks. The vehicles proved difficult to hide from Russian surveillance drones, leaving them open to attack, as "there isn't open ground that you can just drive across without fear of detection," one of the officials was quoted as having said.
"We’ll work with our Ukrainian partners, and other partners on the ground, to help them think through how they might use that, in that kind of changed environment now, where everything is seen immediately," Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman Adm. Christopher Grady told the news agency earlier in the week.
