Ukraine said to be behind killing of Russian general

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was behind the explosion that killed senior Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the military’s chemical, biological and radiological weapons unit, in Moscow, an SBU source told the Kyiv Independent on Tuesday.

According to the source, explosives placed on a scooter went off when Kirillov and his assistant came to the entrance of the house on Ryazansky Prospect in Moscow. Earlier, reports in Russian media claimed that the bomb that killed Kirillov was detonated remotely.

The day before, the SBU revealed that Ukrainian prosecutors charged Kirillov in absentia for the use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine, accusing him of committing a war crime.
