Ukraine warns 1.25M tonnes of grains, oilseeds may go to waste

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyi warned on Friday that as many as 1.25 million tonnes of grain and oilseeds may go to waste as cargo vessels carrying them remain blocked in the Black Sea.

Solskyi stressed the cargo "is not unloaded" and is still on the 57 vessels. He added that, if the grain is stored for over three months or even less depending on the conditions on the ships, "problems arise and part of the cargo can be spoiled."

Ukraine was one of the world's top grain and oilseed exporters before Russian launched its military operation in the country. However, Solkyi warned that since then its exports tumbled from around 2 million tonnes a month to 200,000 tonnes.
