Ukraine’s Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak (pictured) on Thursday accused Russia of transporting prisoners of war to remote areas in Siberia and torturing them.
While addressing the audience via video link at Davos, Yermak stated that between 900,000 and 1.6 million Ukrainians have been deported by Moscow forces, with some of them being taken to isolated regions in the far east. "In the 21st century Russia reinvented concentration camp," the official said, alleging that people incarcerated there are subject to "systematic physical and moral torture."
Yermak stressed that existing international organizations cannot protect prisoners of war and civilians, calling for a formation of a specialized body to ensure all "Ukrainian hostages return home."
