Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen commented on Sunday that his reelection for the country's head of state means that "Europe won."
Speaking live at his party's electoral headquarters, Van der Bellen stressed the importance of a united European Union amid Russia's military intervention in Ukraine, noting that other candidates in the election "would not have seen it that way."
As of 8:06 pm CET, with 52.50% of the ballots counted, Van der Bellen has won 54.60% of the votes, in line with initial estimates.
