Portugal gov't falls after no-confidence vote

UNSPLASH / LUIS_FELICIANO

Portugal's parliament voted against a motion of confidence in Prime Minister Luis Montenegro's center-right minority government, leading to its downfall after just 11 months in power and opening the door for snap elections, marking the third such event for the country in a little over three years.

The Socialists and right-wing Chega teamed up to bring him down, and a snap election could happen as soon as May.

Montenegro, who leads the Social Democratic Party (PSD), has been censured by the parliament due to a corruption scandal.
