Vietnam's National Assembly voted in the Minister of Public Security To Lam (pictured) as the country's new president on Wednesday, Barrons reported.
In a secret ballot, 472 of 473 National Assembly deputies voted to elect the country's top security official as the new president, following the departure of his predecessor, Vo Van Thuong, who resigned in March due to what was described as his "shortcomings" and violations of party rules.
The 66-year-old Lam has been the country's public security minister since 2016 and was admitted to the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2021.
