European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived on Tuesday in Kiev for a meeting with Ukraine's head of state Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Good to be back in Kyiv. Where the values we hold dear are defended everyday. So it is such a fitting place to celebrate the day of Europe," she tweeted. "I welcome President @ZelenskyyUa's decision to make 9 May Europe Day also here in Ukraine."
The day before, Zelensky asked the Verkhovna Rada to change the date of Victory Day in World War II to May 8 and make May 9 Europe Day instead.
