United States President Donald Trump's Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro told Fox on Friday that the head of state is the chief negotiator in discussions on commerce relations between Washington and other countries.
Navarro confirmed that Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, and South Korea are among the countries that reached out to the US to negotiate after it slapped them with reciprocal tariffs of different percentages. He announced that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is going to "handle" Japan and South Korea. The counselor also noted that the negotiations are "very different" now compared to Trump's first term.
His remarks came after Trump announced a 90-day temporary suspension on reciprocal tariffs on almost all countries except China to enable space for negotiations.
