The White House withdrew the nomination of Dave Weldon to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), media in the United States reported on Thursday. He was scheduled to appear for his confirmation hearing later today.

According to Axios, Weldon's anti-vaccine views have "garnered attention" since his nomination and were likely to be challenged by the Senate health committee at the hearing. It is unclear who might replace him as the prospective head of the CDC.
