White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated on Monday the Biden administration's call to Congress to pass legislation banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in the United States.
Opening the daily press briefing, Jean-Pierre discussed gun violence, saying the number of mass shootings across the US exceeds the number of days so far in 2023. "This is a crisis," she stressed, explaining that there have been 201 mass shootings in the last four months.
"This is a crisis that Republicans in Congress are refusing to address. This is the number one killer of kids in America, and Republicans are saying there is nothing we can do about it," she told reporters. The renewed call comes after eight people died over the weekend in a mall shooting in Allen, Texas.
