The White House has defended President Donald Trump's decision to remove two Democratic members of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), stating that the timing was appropriate and that both officials were given ample notice.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized Wednesday that Trump had full authority to make the decision, citing a letter that outlined the administration’s reasoning. Leavitt suggested that if the legality of the dismissals is challenged, they are prepared to take the case to the Supreme Court. The move comes amid fears of shifting the commission to a Republican majority.

The firings affected FTC Commissioners Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Slaughter, both of whom have strongly criticized the decision.
