White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Thursday that United States officials are in ongoing discussions with their Israeli counterparts on a "temporary ceasefire" in Lebanon and that there will "probably" be an announcement on the progress later in the day.

Jean-Pierre insisted that the statement on the 21-day ceasefire proposal made earlier in the week was "coordinated" with Israel but stated she could not comment on Israel's statement denying reports it is set to agree to the ceasefire, stressing Israel itself should comment on that matter.

The White House press secretary reiterated Washington's stance that agreeing the ceasefire is vital in order to "open up space for diplomacy" and ensure the return of people from both sides to their homes.
