White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Tuesday that United States President Donald Trump wants to "restore American AI dominance."

During her first press conference as the new White House press secretary, Leavitt repeated Trump's previous remarks about the unexpected breakthrough of Chinese AI app DeepSeek as a "wake-up" call to the US tech sector.

"The last administration sat on their hands and allowed China to rapidly develop this AI program," she said, stressing Trump's efforts to reduce "onerous regulations on the AI industry" and boost its competitiveness.
