The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated on Friday that COVID-19 could turn into a threat similar to seasonal flu over the course of this year.
"We have a duty to ourselves to end this pandemic as soon as possible," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated at a press conference. "We have a duty to those we have lost to find out how it started. And we have a duty to those who will follow us to make the world safer."
Tedros also urged the international community to exercise more caution in the future, stressing that "[i]f we repeat the same mistakes, our children and grandchildren will not forgive us."
