The World Health Organization's technical advisory group pointed out on Tuesday that COVID-19 vaccines "may need to be updated" in order to "provide WHO-recommended levels of protection" against Omicron and future variants of the virus.
The WHO body issued a statement, singling out the jabs' insufficient effectiveness against preventing infections with Omicron.
Insisting on repeated COVID-19 booster shots is not a viable strategy either, the group concluded.
