British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace officially submitted on Thursday his previously announced resignation in a letter addressed to 10 Downing Street, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expected to name his replacement later in the day.
"I genuinely believe that over the next decade the world will become more insecure and unstable. We both share the belief that now is the time to invest," Wallace wrote. "After much reflection, I have made the decision to request permission to step down."
Previously, Wallace confirmed he will step down from the position during the next cabinet reshuffle in September. According to reports from various media outlets, there are several names being considered for the position, including the current UK energy secretary, Grant Shapps.
