Weekly Recap: Sweden's NATO membership, Haley's withdrawal and Super Tuesday surprises

In this week's political highlights in the US, Super Tuesday took center stage as voters cast their ballots across multiple states. Notably, Democrat candidate Jason Palmer emerged as the unexpected winner in the American Samoa presidential caucuses, marking President Joe Biden's sole defeat this primary season. Meanwhile, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley secured a victory in the Vermont Republican primary, defeating former President Donald Trump for the second time, before dropping out of the race later in the week.

In legislative news, the US Senate passed a $460 billion spending bill package, a move later endorsed by President Biden.

On the international front, Canada announced its decision to resume funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), reversing its previous withdrawal, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that the upcoming March local elections would be his last and Israel reportedly rejected a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

One of the most prominent headlines of the week was that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) welcomed Sweden as its official member.

Shifting to the economic front, China reported a 0.7% annual inflation rate for February, while the Eurozone's GDP remained stable in the fourth quarter of 2023.
