Chinese President Xi Jinping decided not to attend the G20 summit to be held on September 9-10 in New Delhi, anonymous western officials told the Financial Times. If confirmed, this would be the first time that China's leader would not participate in the G20 meeting.
According to the report, China will be represented by its Premier Li Qiang. Sources also said to the media outlet that Xi's decision to miss the summit next weekend could be a severe setback for its importance, especially in view of the fact that the Chinese head of state has lately been promoting the expansion of BRICS and close cooperation between its member countries.
Earlier this week, India's Ministry of External Affairs said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention to attend the G20 summit.
