China will address concerns about its trade practices as the country seeks to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday.
Speaking at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Xi criticized unilateralism and protectionism, offering reassurances that Beijing is willing to openly discuss pressing issues regarding economics and trade, adding that China has "fully fulfilled the commitments it made" when joining the World Trade Organization in 2001.
"China will proactively and openly participate in negotiations on the digital economy, trade and the environment, industrial subsidies and state-owned companies, defend multilateralism and the international rules-based system, and defend the stability of global industrial and supply chain," Xi said.
