Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on Thursday that the enlargement of BRICS is a new "starting point" for emerging economies and a "historic" step.

"This membership expansion is historic, and it shows the determination of the bloc for unity and cooperation," Xi said during the last session of the summit while stressing that the decision had been reached "unanimously."

"BRICS countries are all countries with important influence and... important responsibilities for world peace and development. During the summit, we had in-depth exchanges on the current international situation and the BRICS cooperation," he asserted.
