Chinese President Xi Jinping (pictured right) said after a meeting with former Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeuo (left) that "no force can divide" China and Taiwan. He added that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait must "resolutely oppose separatist activities" and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, starting with the adherence to the One China principle.

"Differences in systems cannot change the objective fact that both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to the same country and nation. External interference cannot stop the historical trend of family and country reunion," Xi said.
