Yemen's Council announced Monday that Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak will leave his position in the Foreign Ministry to become the new prime minister (PM) and to replace outgoing Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, who has been in the role since 2018.

Bin Mubarak has been in charge of Yemen's Foreign Affairs since December 2022 and previously, he was general secretary at the country's National Dialogue Conference.

The designation comes at a time when Yemen is part of the unfolding news in the Middle East, with Houthi militias carrying out attacks on commercial ships as a sign of rejection of Israeli military operations on Gaza.
