US kicks off lower as debt ceiling talks continue

Major stock markets in New York opened Tuesday's session in the negative territory as investors closely followed the Congressional negotiations over raising the debt ceiling before the June deadline. In business news, Apple and Broadcom reached a major new deal while Zoom Video Communications recently posted its first-quarter earnings results.

The Dow Jones lost 0.43% at the opening bell, as Visa Inc. dropped 1.98%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 0.52%, led by Zoom's 7.04% plunge. The S&P 500 decreased by 0.45%, with Steel Dynamics tumbling 4.57%.

The euro declined 0.30% against the dollar to sell for 1.07803 at 9:29 am ET, dropping to the lowest level since early April.
