Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that the European Union should participate in diplomatic efforts to reach a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Addressing the European Council via video call, Zelensky claimed that Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure have not stopped although Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to an energy ceasefire in a phone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump. He further called on the international community to keep pressuring Putin because "one moment they give their word, and a few hours later it means absolutely nothing."
In addition, the Ukrainian head of state asked the European allies for aid of at least €5 billion for artillery shells "as soon as possible."
