Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ensured on Thursday that he did not discuss with his US counterpart Donald Trump the possibility of the US taking over Ukraine's nuclear power plants, after US Secretary of State and the White House signaled that this issue was discussed during the Trump-Zelensky call.
"All nuclear power plants belong to the people of Ukraine," Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Oslo. He stressed that he told Trump that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian control since 2022, would not be able to operate unless it is under Ukrainian control.
However, the president said "if the Americans want to take the station from the Russians and they want to invest there" Kiev is willing to discuss it. Additionally, he said that Ukrainian and US officials will meet in Saudi Arabia on Monday to work out the details of the energy ceasefire proposal.
