Zelensky: US-supplied landmines 'critically essential' on field

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the US decision to provide antipersonnel landmines as crucial for countering Russian attacks.

Taking on X on Wednesday, he expressed gratitude for the latest defense package, emphasizing that the inclusion of these mines would significantly bolster Ukrainian forces on the front lines. "This will really strengthen our guys on the frontline."

Currently, 164 countries have signed up to the Ottawa Treaty that seeks to eliminate the use of anti-personnel mines as there are millions of cases around the world that prove they indiscriminately hurt both military and civilians and can leave victims with lifelong injuries. Neither the United States nor Russia are signatories to the treaty.
